About Sara Doan.
Born in Fort Worth, Texas, Sara Doan began studying piano at the age of three with Donna Edwards. Under her tutelage, Ms. Doan won top prizes in several state and regional competitions. She earned a Bachelors degree, cum laude, and a Masters degree, magna cum laude, in Piano Performance at the University of North Texas, where she studied with Joseph Banowetz. There, she was voted by faculty Most Outstanding Graduate Student in 2009. Ms. Doan completed doctoral studies for music performance and pedagogy at Texas Christian University under Dr. Tamas Ungar and Dr. Ann Gispon. Ms. Doan is also a member of Sigma Alpha Iota, Pi Kappa Lambda, and Music Teachers National Association.
Ms. Doan has performed with the Meadows Symphony Orchestra in Dallas, and the North Texas Symphony Orchestra in Denton, Texas. She has presented recitals across Texas, Oklahoma, Washington, D. C., Virginia, and Pennsylvania. In December 2010, Ms. Doan served as guest artist in the 1st International Piano Festival of Bogota, Colombia where she performed, taught masterclasses, led discussions, and served on the competition jury. In addition to her solo performances, she has toured as solo pianist with the Seraphim Choir across the US and Ireland. In 2009, Miss Doan was winner of the National Young Artist Competition, PianoTexas Festival Piano Competition, and the University of North Texas Concerto Competition. Ms. Doan was also a finalist in the 2008 Wideman Piano Competition and received the Raymond S Morris Award. She has played in masterclasses with Dmitri Alexeev, Giovanni Umberto Battel, Madeleine Forte, Miguel Herth-Bedoya, Zhang Jin, Yoheveda Kaplinsky, Radoslav Kvapil, Miyoko Lotto, Harold Martina, and Solomon Mikowsky.
Ms. Doan has served as Collaborative Pianist-in-Residence at Southeastern Oklahoma State University in 2005, and Adjunct Professor of Piano at the University of North Texas in 2008-2009, teaching piano classes to undergraduates, and Adjunct Professor at Tarleton State University in 2018. Ms. Doan, being a Steinway Educational Partner, maintains a private studio in the DFW area and is an Adjunct Professor of Piano at Tarrant County College. She performs regularly with her chamber groups, Trio 8831 and Apana Trio. Ms. Doan also works with the Cliburn Foundation, Chamber Music Society of Fort Worth and the Fort Worth Music Fund presenting educational programs. Ms. Doan is also a member of Fort Worth Music Teachers Association, Fort Worth Piano Forum, and Sigma Alpha Iota - Fort Worth Alumnae Chapter.
